Rate of households accepted to be eligible, unintentionally homeless and in priority need per 10,000 households (Section 75). This data was introduced in 2015-16 because new homelessness legislation was introduced in Wales on 27th April 2015 (Part 2 of the Housing (Wales) Act 2014). It is not possible to directly compare the number of ‘homeless households’ collected under the current and previous legislations. Under the previous legislation, households accepted as homeless because they were eligible, unintentionally homeless and in priority need were owed a main homelessness duty by the local authority to secure suitable accommodation. Under the new legislation, the number of households meeting the same criteria cannot be compared because in some cases the homelessness may have been relieved through earlier intervention.
Mid-2014 household estimates have been used to calculate the 2015-16 data.
